Nice Doll.
This summer, the Barbican Art Gallery will showcase the works of Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf.
Collaborating since 1992, Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren gave us their first Haute Couture catwalk show in January 1998, which was followed by four more inspirational collections that helped secure their place in fashion history.
Over the past 15 years, Viktor & Rolf have taken the fashion world by storm with their particular blend of avant-garde pieces and surreal beauty. This is the first time that an exhibition has been devoted to this influential duo in the United Kingdom .
The House of Viktor & Rolf, which overtakes both floors of the Gallery, charts their career within the context of a specially commissioned installation by Viktor & Rolf.
The exhibition started June 18th and will end September 21, 2008.

See it before the lights go out.
Take Your Time: Olafur Eliasson by Olafur Eliasson
This presentation at the MOMA spans over fifteen years of Eliasson's career. His constructions, sculptures, and photographs elegantly recreate the extremes of landscape and atmosphere. He used multicolored washes, focused projections of light, mirrors, and elements such as water, stone, and moss to shift the viewer's perception of place and self.
This exhibit allows viewers to become part of Olafur's imaginary landscape. The cool, air-conditioned space of the MOMA will be a good place to take refuge from the heat this weekend.
See it before it's over this weekend, but once you get there, please, "take your time!"

A hat for you Miss?
A David Downtown illustration.
This Ireland-born, London-based milliner started his career in 1989 after being introduced to his longtime Muse, the late Isabella Blow. She commissioned him to create a fashion headdress for her marriage to the barrister, Detmar Blow. He continued to design hats for Mrs. Blow, which eventually made Treacy a recognized name in the fashion world.

Since then, he has designed pieces for the designer houses like Givenchy and Chanel, and designers such as Alexander McQueen, Valentino, and Gianni Versace. Mr. Treacy was asked to design hats for the wedding of Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005.

With projects for G-Hotel, Moet & Chandon and David Downtown, the illustrator, a five-time recipient of the British Accessory Designer of the Year, still has a lot to show us.
Hats off to you, Mr. Philip Treacy.

Obama influence on fashion.
With the face of Barack Obama as the new president of the United States becoming a more realistic possibility with each passing day, his campaign has been full of celebrity backing, from artists to musicians.
In the latest announcement, Italian designer Donatella Versace has said she will pay homage to Obama in her upcoming 2009 spring/summer collection. Much of the inspiration for this line is derived from the notion that Obama is a relaxed man who doesn't need to flex muscles to show he has power.

Edra and Swarovski crystals have joined forces to created The Diamond Collection, which features furniture with thousands of crystals.
A special high-resistance fabric containing Kevlar is cut and then Swarovski covers it with crystals for a magical sheen. Each crystallized piece has a metallic numbered tag, on which both company brands are stamped. The buyer not only gets an authenticity guarantee, but also a sign of this special association.
The highlight of the complete Swarovski collection is the diamond sofa, a flap sofa studded with more than 750,000 Swarovski crystals.
Don't worry - the pieces are comfortable to sit on, for those who are wondering.

Spotlight:Chanel Iman.
Eighteen-year-old Chanel Iman Robinson, simply known as Chanel Iman in the modeling world, is one of the most diverse girls walking the catwalk these days.
Being a runner-up in the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest surely didn't stop Ms.Iman from winning catwalk gigs for everyone from Alexander McQueen to Valentino.
Four years into her career, Chanel has become an "established face" in the modeling industry and, as far as she is concerned, this is just the beginning. Open any magazine, watch any runway show, and chances are you'll find Chanel's big brown eyes staring back at you.

Project staff weekly obsession: Coldplay
This week, Christina is loving the new Coldplay CD entitled Viva La Vida, or long live life. Inspired by a Frida Kahlo painting, some of the album, which was recorded in churches in Spain and Latin America, is full of religious references. The song "Life in Technicolor" introduces a Persian santur into the orchestration, commonly used in the traditional music of Iraq and Iran, as well as steel guitars and long instrumental soundscapes.
You can listen to the entire CD at www.iheartmusic.com or you can download the CD at itunes.
