We Shop Long Time!

Last night, the Project Crew decided to visit some of our favorite vendors who participated in the Gen Art Shop NYC, event to give them some financial support. See our Shopping Time Story.    With all these great designers in one place selling their merchandise at reduced prices, things have to go crazy and a lot of money was spent.

A couple of designers stood out above the rest. Here are a few.

Chris Habana.

Brooklyn-based jewelry designer Chris Habana, who has a background in printmaking and women's wear, started his own line 5 years ago. Since then, his three-dimensional pieces has garnered a lot of positiveattention, and has been featured in The Fader, Numero Homme, Trace and Exit Magazine, to name a few.

Laura Seymour.

This technical designer, who has been a long-time favorite, offers a line of easy, slouchy dress-up clothes that makes you look good without even trying.

Margarita Saplala.
Saplala got her start at Halston Coats and worked with a slew of other designers before starting her own line of beautiful printed tees, which she twists, knots, and braids.

Project's Staff Weekly Obsession: Gramercy Tavern

Having an old college friend in town gave Christina a great excuse to leave her desk and take advantage of restaurant week in New York.

Although it has always been my favorite New York restaurant, Gramercy Tavern is even more fun to show off after it won the Outstanding Restaurant award in the 2008 James Beard Foundation Restaurant Awards.
From Left to right: Friend and Christina.

If you haven't been to Gramercy Tavern during Restaurant Week yet, no worries, they are also offering a gift certificate for the price of your Restaurant Week meal, compliments of the house!
The $24.07 gift certificate is good toward another weekday lunch at Gramercy Tavern from August 4th through September 26th, between 12 noon and 2pm, in either the Tavern Room or the Dining Room.

I recommend you get there early. You definitely don't want to feel rushed when you are enjoying the fabulous food and the service that makes you feel like a celebrity!

Hello, Goodbye

Mr.John Galliano, always in his Sunday best.

Besides seeing the fashionable frocks we'll be wearing next season, everyone wants to see the master mind(s) behind the clothes, but how will each designer close the show for the season?

Will they walk down the entire runway greeting friends and supporters in the front row? Maybe they will stand, bow and wave. Some actually peek out just because it is required, while others come out dressed better than their models for the season (John Galliano comes to mind).

Here are some designers that say goodbye in their own way every season.

Ohh, that tingles!!!

In northern Virginia, there is a spa that has been offering a pedicure that uses the Garra Rufa, also called doctor fish, to help remove the dead skin from the clients' feet. The owner of the salon, "Yvonne Hair and Nail," wanted to try something different while finding a replacement for pedicures that used razors to scrape off dead skin.

With over 5000 people who have already taken the plunge in DC, its only a matter of time before this unique treatments splashes into NYC.

"I haven't taken the bus in a long time, but i took one the other day when i went to pick up my car and I saw this bus stop and thought "Wow, how cool." I thought it would be fun to see what kind of cool bus stops there are around the world."

NYC Restaurant Week.

Interior of Spice Market

Keeping in the Cheap Eats theme today, NYC Restaurant Week started yesterday ladies.

This program was developed in 1992 to welcome the Democratic National Convention to the City.

Since 1992, the success of NYC Restaurant Week has only grown, with over 235 restaurants offering both lunch and dinner: three-course, prix-fixe meals for $24.07 and $35.00. It has now been extended to two weeks each in the summer and winter.

The Mercer Kitchen.

Dates: July 21st to July 25th/July 28th -August 1st.

All of this just for $20.

What the low-end chef made.Harry Hawk of Harry’s at Water Taxi Beach
Total cost: $13.78

During the summer months in NYC, everyone is out enjoying the sun and no one wants to stay home to cook, making eating out an expensive habit. Thank goodness for the annual Cheat Eats issue from New York Magazine, on newsstands now.

One particular article caught my attention:" Three Course Meals for $20 or Less". NY Mag asked two very different chefs to create a three course meal for two, using the same $20 budget. Let the food wars begin!

What the high-end chef made.Chef Olivier Muller of DB Bistro Moderne
Total cost: $17.74
