In 2004, The Pritzker Prize for Architecture was awarded to Zaha Hadid, the first woman to receive the reward in its 26-year history.
Until recently, Hadid was more famous not for the buildings she had built, but for the ones she had not. This is because her very strong character and single mindedness made clients run to the hills, preserving her designs only in dramatic images.

With 30 years of experience under her belt and such projects as MAXXI Contemporary Arts Centre in Rome; the BMW Central Building in Wolfsburg Germany; the Cincinnati Art Center in the U.S; and Opera Houses in Dubai and Guangzhou; Ms. Hadid was given a dream project: the London 2012 Olympic Aquatics Centre.
